Mean Girls Review

First - official - blog post, first review and that for me only means one thing...

One of my all time favorite movies. I can't even count the times I've seen it, the times I've said wait-for-it whether or not the person next to me has seen the movie and of course is the reason I consider October 3rd a very romantic day.

Mean Girls is a movie based on a book and actually a non-fictional one. It's a typical high school chick flick and at the same time so much more. It has edge, it's funny and it's a mockery of things that should be mocked : high school cliques and hierarchy.
Tina Fey's writing is clever and fast paced. The story has a great structure, one thing follows an other and is easy to follow. It's a comedy with a message without going dramatic or super- serious at any point. Fey respects comedy and her ironic style is completely admirable.
Another great thing with the movie is that it's well-acted from the beginning to the end, from every actor. The movie has actual use for all the characters and none seems unnecessary. The two main leads, Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams are doing a great job. But I dare to say that the supporting characters are those that stand out. The students in these school may seem a little exaggerated but they are actually dangerously close to real life, they seem funny but not ridiculous. The actors and director make sure of that.
   The movie is perfect for
  • GIRLS most of all
but as I said it's a general fun watch. Perfect for a girly night, it's the type of care-free watch. But I truly believe it's an ok watch for guys since - and imagine me shouting this - IT IS NOT A STUPID CHICK FLICK!!! It's actually a really smart movie.

I should note that although I use chick flick a lot, guys should not be discouraged of watching. Maybe it's not their ideal movie and probably wrong for guys that are sworn by action films but it's a fun watch. Still good for a date night. But I admit, totally wrong for an all guy company

The movie starts with the introduction of Cady Haron, a sixteen year old who has never been to a regular school. Her mother used to homeschool her and also there’s the fact she just moved here from Africa. Cady is the type of naïve, kind girl (Yes, Lindsay plays Cady) who’s up for a shock when she realizes that people in her new school are not actually that nice. Hey! Where has kindness gone?
Luckily Cady soon meets Janis and Damien, the most awesome people you’ll ever meet. They are the ones who inform her of the school cliques and the way things work. It's actually both funny and tragic, because it's so stupid and so true.
